Keeping GO Westmoreland Moving Forward

Beginning October 1, 2026, GO Westmoreland will increase fares for its Shared-Ride service. The change, approved by the Westmoreland County Transit Authority Board following PennDOT’s review and acceptance, is the first fare adjustment for the program since 2018.

We understand that an increase in the cost of transportation matters, particularly for the riders who depend on GO Westmoreland. This decision was not made lightly. For eight years, WCTA has worked to maintain the program without increasing fares, including deferring an adjustment through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the cost of providing transportation has changed significantly since 2018. Fuel, vehicle parts, maintenance, employee wages, and other operating expenses have all increased, while the cost of providing safe, reliable, and accessible service continues to rise.

This fare adjustment is necessary to help GO Westmoreland remain sustainable and continue providing the level of service our communities rely on. Without an adjustment, maintaining the current service could become increasingly difficult and could ultimately require significant service reductions.

We know GO Westmoreland is more than a ride. It connects people to medical appointments, employment, shopping, essential services, and their communities. Maintaining this service means preserving an important resource for residents who rely on accessible, door-to-door transportation.

We are committed to being transparent about what is changing and why. The accompanying fare chart provides details about the new fares beginning October 1.

Our goal is to keep GO Westmoreland moving forward and continue Connecting People to Life throughout Westmoreland County and beyond.
