It’s All about Choice!

For most people, life is all about choices. We choose where to live, what to eat, how to dress, and much more. In fact, most people make so many choices throughout the day that some of them become routine. We have an opportunity and a preference and we act upon it, without a lot of consideration for the fact that we have just made a choice.
Unfortunately, people with disabilities don’t always experience those same opportunities to make choices about their lives. Many times an individual with a disability may feel limited by the need for support, lack of opportunities, people’s perceptions, and other factors. There are, however, organizations that can help empower individuals to make choices in how they live their lives.
Home services agencies can provide supports so that individuals with disabilities can continue to live in their own homes – or wherever they choose to live. These organizations can offer a variety of services, so that individuals can choose the services that they want or need, not just what someone thinks that they should have. They also can provide training and education for individuals who choose to learn new skills and gain more knowledge to increase their independence.
It should be about possibilities, not disabilities, and there are services available to empower individuals with disabilities to life their life to its fullest – and to make the choices that are right for them. If you have a disability, we encourage you to explore these possibilities and learn more about the opportunities that exist for you to make the choices that best suit you and your lifestyle. Just because you have a disability, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have a life that is full of choices.
