Residents Treated Like Family at Chartiers Manor

Every day at Chartiers Manor, staff live by the motto, "Let our family care for your family." Located at 814 Chartiers Avenue in McKees Rocks, PA, the 95-bed, two-building personal care facility is home to a very diverse community who benefit not only from 24-hour care, but from activities designed to allow them to live as independently as possible. "We strive to provide both families and residents with the ultimate experience in personal care," explained Chartiers Manor Administrator Jeffrey Krantz. "We help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting and feeding, and provide medication assistance to all residents 24/7." Chartiers Manor also provides regularly scheduled primary care physician visits, and will arrange transportation with staff escorts to medical appointments.

"We can also provide comprehensive physical rehabilitation programs for our residents as needed," added Krantz. "Working with Celtic Healthcare, we have created an in-house rehab space; Celtic provides the treatment professionals."

In order to meet the mental, as well as the physical health needs of its residents, Chartiers Manors hosts more than 85 planned events each month. "These events are designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of our resident population," said Krantz. "We have arts and crafts on a regular basis in addition to weekly movies and bingo, and we also offer weekly spiritual services. We feature an occasional live entertainer as well."

Family members can enjoy peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are well cared for at Chartiers Manor, which is located at the former St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in McKees Rocks. Renovations to the original facility include emergency call buttons in every room, an outside patio with a fish pond and cable and Internet access.

"Some of our other amenities include weekly room cleaning and weekly linen change, as well as free parking for residents and their visitors," said Krantz, adding that other amenities, such as in-house hair care, can be provided at a reduced cost. "Families of residents may enjoy guest meals with their loved ones in our dining rooms, where meals are served restaurant-style."

Chartiers Manor residents are served three nutritious meals and two snacks per day, and can choose from an alternative menu if they prefer something different. Diabetic diets and other accommodations can be made as needed by the kitchen staff who have the flexibility to meet the needs of each resident.

Residents can also enjoy year-round trips to restaurants planned by the activities director, as well as outings to Pirates' games and cookouts during the summer. "We attempt to take our residents out as much as possible because it provides a bonding experience," said Krantz. "It is a morale booster for both staff and residents."
