OVH’s Annual Diabetes Day Aims to Increase Community Health March 28th

Ohio Valley Hospital’s popular Diabetes Day is a must-attend event for those interested in health and wellness. This annual event, now in its 9th year, is set for Tuesday, March 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m It will take place in the Hospital’s School of Nursing building.

Diabetes Day is not just designed for people living with diabetes; aside from a focus on teaching and assessing diabetic risk factor, symptoms, and complications, people who are interested in leading a healthier lifestyle are also encouraged to attend!
Free health screenings will be available, including bone density scans, blood pressure, glucose tests, and an A1C test. Some of the testing will require a 12 hour fast for accurate results. Diabetes Day is free, open to the public, and attendance offers up the chance to win various raffles as well as a grand prize.

Vendors will have tables set up with diabetic supplies, services, samples, information packets, and giveaways. Vendor services will include diabetes research, exercise, insulin products, nutrition, and wound care. A growing list of vendors and services can be found at our website, www.ohiovalleyhospital.org/programs-and-events/diabetes-day/.

OVH staff, physicians, and other local vendors will offer a variety of health talks as well as cooking demonstrations with taste testing at noon!

Free parking is available, and drop off spaces will be provided in front of the facility. Please check our Facebook page www.facebook.com/ohiovalleyhospital for updates. Full event information and directions are available on our website. For questions or to pre-register for the event, please contact our Outpatient Dietitian & Diabetes Educator, Susan Zikos, at 412-777-6205 or szikos@ohiovalleyhospital.org.

There are many risk factors for diabetes that you should be aware of. People who are overweight, who have a family history of diabetes, who are not active, or are over the age of 45 should consider themselves at risk for the disease. Whether you have diabetes, are at risk for diabetes, or are just interested in learning about better ways to eat healthy, Ohio Valley Hospital’s Annual Diabetes Day has something for everyone!
