Outpatient Care Center in Peters Township

New Outpatient Care Center Opens in Peters Township
By Lisa Bianco

Now residents of Peters Township will have a convenient alternative for health services located right in their community. The West Penn Allegheny Health System has already opened phase one of its new outpatient care center, situated in a Peters Township Shopping Plaza where Radicchio's market once stood. The 55,000 square foot outpatient facility will be offering clinical and surgical services that local residents sometimes had to travel outside of the community to obtain. Services will include primary care physician offices, laboratory services, advanced diagnostic imaging, medical and radiation oncology, physical therapy, orthopaedics and more than 20 different subspecialty services.

The outpatient care center initiated phase one last November 22, with the opening of the Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Institute, staffed by Allegheny Orthopaedic Associates and Allegheny General Hospital Physical Therapy. Says Terry Wiltrout, Vice President of Operations at Canonsburg General Hospital, and the project's coordinator, "It's taken two years of planning to make this project come together. On April 4 we're scheduled to open phase two, with our primary care physician group coming on board, Canonsburg General Hospital's laboratory and imaging departments and West Penn Hospital's outpatient services—medical oncology and hematology. Phase three is planned for August of this year when Allegheny General Hospital radiation oncology joins the center and the final phase comes in the fall when the ambulatory surgical center opens its doors."

Wiltrout is excited that high end medical specialists will now be available right in the community, and the physician groups coming on board are especially attracted to the convenience factor. "This project has been very much a physician-led effort, with doctors involved in the planning and design processes. Our physicians have also enjoyed the freedom to design their own office spaces."

A lot of effort has also been put into making the Outpatient Care Center a pleasing and high service environment. Wiltrout describes the center's main lobby as a warm and inviting place that includes a fireplace, a common area with a café, computer kiosks with free Internet access for visitors, and concierge services. "We wanted to focus on convenience features for family members who are bringing loved ones in for tests and procedures. To that end we'll be offering family members the use of restaurant style patron pagers. They can drop the patient off, get some shopping done in the nearby shopping plaza, and be alerted by the pager when the patient is ready to go home."

The Outpatient Care Center will also be adding subspecialty services to include allergists, colorectal surgery, lupus and rheumatology, traveling immunology, optoplasty, nephrology, preventive cardiologists, pediatric ENT and pain management. Wiltrout says they're projecting that 58,000 tests and procedures will be conducted in the first year that the Center is open.

A community open house is planned for March 28, 2011 to introduce the Outpatient Care Center to residents of Peters Township. Then on May 7, in partnership with the McMurray Rotary Club, a community Health Awareness Day will be held with lots of free health screening being offered to visitors.

The Outpatient Care Center is located at 160 Gallery Drive, McMurray, PA 15317. The Center's main phone number is 1-855-809-8999. For more information, contact Terry Wiltrout at (724) 873-5880 or twiltrou@wpahs.org, or Acacia Svonavec, media contact, at (724) 873-5835
